Hello and thank you for looking. A lovely nubby weave siamoise. This quilt was once just backed in homespun linen however someone added this stunning c 1805 cotton in the past I assumed many many many years ago indeed! This quilt uses a light cotton batting between the layers. This quilt is fabulously saturated for it's age.
Typically the indigo would show more evidence of fading with time. This quilt is hand stitched and hand quilted. (please see condition details below).
MEASUREMENTS : this textile measures approximately 86 inches by 91 inches. CONDITION This quilt is in original, as found condition. There are many small holes in the indigo (please see photographs) patches of small holes dotted here and there and the middle has a great deal of wear (please see photograph). The backing has been unquilted from the back!
Someone was trying to remove the backing fabric, perhaps to re-back? This would need to be restitched in place. This quilt has wear along the side edges to be expected. There are some light dirty marks. The red backing has holes in places (please see photographs) This quilt is not right for anyone requiring a perfect or very good condition textile, however it's ideal for anyone that doesn't mind the signs of time and use often inherent in these fabulous 18th century textiles.
